AmazonSmile will donate part of Amazon order value to charity

Customers can nominate charity to receive Amazon donation

Amazon has launched a program that will allow customers to donate money to charity using Amazon orders. AmazonSmile lets customers name a charity of their choice that will receive 0.5 percent of the price of their total Amazon purchase as a monetary donation, with the retailer advising that there is no cap on the amount that can be donated.

The deal works through customers starting their shop via the AmazonSmile page. Once one from nearly one million organizations has been selected, the customer then proceeds through the normal Amazon shopping experience, though they can also opt to change the charity receiving the donation from a purchase at any time in the future.

Though most items on Amazon are included within AmazonSmile, there are still some exceptions that do not count towards the donation total. Digital products will not count for the moment, according to All Things D, nor will purchases via Amazon Subscribe-and-Save, and of course rebates, service charges, shipping, gift-wrapping fees, and refunds will also affect the amount donated.

Currently, AmazonSmile is only available on the US version of the store, though it is likely that Amazon will offer a similar initiative in other regions in the future.
