Time Warner to double Ultimate Internet speeds in LA, NYC, Hawaii

updated 10:34 am EDT, Thu October 31, 2013

ISP looking to reverse

Time Warner Cable is planning to double the Internet speeds of its Ultimate 50 customers, but only in a handful of cities, according to an announcement. First up is Los Angeles, which should shortly see speeds reach up to 100Mbps. By the end of the year, New York City and cities in Hawaii will get the upgrade.

The move is likely a response to the company's most recent quarterly results, in which it admitted to losing 24,000 Internet customers. Time Warner has significantly hiked fees for some of its subscribers, and in some markets is facing intense competition from rivals like AT&T and Comcast. In cities like Austin and Kansas City, moreover, the company is facing a drain of customers to Google Fiber. Austin has yet to get Fiber, but is scheduled to sometime next year.
