Dual-screen YotaPhone has e-paper display for low power consumption

Yota Devices, a Russian-based hardware producer, is planning to sell its dual-screened YotaPhone before the end of this year. The YotaPhone uses a 4.3-inch 720x1280 LCD screen on the front, while on the back is a similar-sized 360x640-resolution e-paper display, with a touch-sensitive area below the second display for gesture controls.

The company advised on the potential release to TechCrunch, with an aim of coming out in time for the holiday season, as a full international release rather than a regional oddity. Having reportedly been shown off since late last year at various trade shows, it is only just coming out next month, and will be shipping with a price tag of 500 euros ($672).

Aside from the dual screen, which is meant to allow it to be used when low on power, the YotaPhone uses a dual-core 1.7GHz processor running Android 4.2.2, with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. A rear 13-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 1-megapixel front-facing version, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 1,800mAh battery, and LTE connectivity are also touted in the handset.
