Jolla readies Sailfish OS smartphone for limited sale on November 27

First 450 Jolla devices to be sold in Helsinki pop-up shop

Jolla has confirmed it will be shipping the first batch of its first smartphone, running on the MeeGo-based Sailfish OS, the on November 27. Only 450 units of the device will be available at first, with the initial batch of handsets created by ex-Nokia employees being sold at a pop-up shop in Helsinki, priced at €399 ($535).

Those who participated in an earlier pre-ordering session, held since May, will have priority over these devices, reports TechCrunch. Those that made a part-payment for the smartphone will be able to pay the rest at the one-evening event, with DNA Kauppa outlets expected to receive more stocks in early December, and other parts of Europe to follow shortly after. It is not clear when the remainder of the orders will be shipping to customers.

The Jolla smartphone has a 4.5-inch IPS 960x540-resolution display, an eight-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and autofocus, a front-facing to-megapixel counterpart, powered by a dual-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Offering LTE connectivity, the device's Sailfish OS allows it to run Android applications, with Jolla also providing a cross-platform SDK for native app development.
