Updated app brings BBM to iPads without cellular connection

BlackBerry Messenger will be coming out for Wi-Fi versions of the iPad within the next 24 hours. The messaging service, already available on iPhones and cellular iPads as well as Android smartphones, will spread to the tablet as the existing app gets updated, though there apparently will not be a tablet-specific version of the app.

Andrew Bocking, head of BBM at BlackBerry, confirmed to SlashGear about the impending update. Bocking also advised that BlackBerry is "pleased" with the rate of adoption of the app, though opted not to say how many active users there were on the service. BBM downloads on iOS and Android managed to exceed 10 million within the first 24 hours of release.

In recent weeks, BlackBerry has had to deny a rumor that it was bringing the Google Play store to BB10 devices, and also replaced CEO Thorsten Heins with interim leader John Chen.
