BlackBerry adds iPad, iPod support to BBM, adds sharing options

updated 05:32 am EST, Fri November 15, 2013

Minor bug fixes included within updated BlackBerry Messenger app

Just as promised by the company yesterday, BlackBerry has updated BBM for iOS, allowing it to be run on iPads and iPods. At the same time, BlackBerry Messenger receives a number of bug fixes relating to the Android version, with both versions also gaining more options for sharing and connecting with other users on the service.

The BlackBerry Help blog notes that, aside from support for non-cellular iOS devices running iOS 6 and iOS 7, the iOS version includes improvements for right-to-left language support, and fixes an issue where some users reported BBM contact names were absent. The Android version includes BBM Group List sorting and filtering improvements, adds support for BBM Contact Categories, and fixes a bug where a number of users endured higher than expected battery usage.

Both versions include an extra "Share PIN" option that makes providing the BBM pin to other users easier, along with "Tell Your Friends," which sends users to the BlackBerry website and shows social network acquaintances of the user that are also on BBM.

Despite adding iPad and iPod support to the iOS version, BlackBerry does not appear to have given the same courtesy to Android tablet users.
