Windows RT-powered Lumia tablet set to launch next week

Nokia next Friday will launch the Lumia 2520, its recently unveiled Windows RT tablet, on November 22, the company revealed today. A post on Nokia's Conversations blog confirmed that the Lumia 2520 would be available in retail outlets next week. A 4G LTE version of the device will also be available in AT&T retail outlets and online.

Nokia's first venture into the tablet segment, the 2520 packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, as well as 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage expandable by MicroSD up to another 32GB. It also has a 6.7MP rear camera with autofocus and Zeiss optics. The front-facing camera has a 2MP resolution, and the device has HDMI outputs, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and NFC connectivity.

The device's display is a 10.1-inch ClearBlack screen with Gorilla Glass 2 covering. That display outputs at 1080p with AH-IPS technology, and Nokia says it is bright enough to read outdoors.

Inside, it packs an 8,000mAh battery, and that battery can achieve 80 percent charge within an hour. Nokia also offers an optional keyboard cover. The Power Keyboard adds a pair of USB ports capable of boosting the device's battery life by another five hours.

The Lumia 2520 runs Windows RT 8.1, meaning it will not have the ability to run legacy Windows applications. Instead, users will have to download apps from Microsoft's Windows Store. It will, though, have compatibility with an RT version of Office and Outlook.

The Lumia 2520 will go on sale on November 22. The AT&T version will be priced at $400 with a two-year agreement. Customers purchasing the device along with a new Lumia 925, Lumia 1020, or Lumia 1520 can get the tablet for $200 along with a two-year agreement.
