Tizen push to begin early next year

Samsung will launch a smart refrigerator running its Tizen operating system at CES next year, sources tell Ubergizmo. January's Consumer Electronics Show will see the unveiling of Samsung's second Tizen-powered product, with the first being a digital camera that shipped earlier this year. The appearance of a smart refrigerator supports prior indications that Tizen was an eminently scalable platform that Samsung would push onto appliances as well as mobile devices.

Reportedly, the smart fridge will have a built-in display, and it will run on Nexell's Application Processor with either 512MB or 256MB of RAM. It is also expected to have some level of built-in flash storage, as well as Wi-Fi b/g/n support.

Tizen is a platform developed collaboratively between Samsung and chip giant Intel. The platform can reportedly scale from smart appliances like the rumored smart refrigerator on up through mobile devices, such as the Galaxy S III-like Samsung Z9005, which the company showed off earlier this year. Samsung is also said to be working on Tizen-based televisions for release some time in the next year.
