UNcarrier carries on with no money down offer

T-Mobile has kicked off its holiday cell phone sales season with an offer that will give consumers the chance to pick up new smartphones from LG or Sony with no money down. The offer is the latest in T-Mobile's ongoing effort to claw back market share from its three larger competitors, a goal the carrier has pursued by offering a series of unconventional wireless plans for its customers. Consumers looking to pick up a phone for no money down can choose from three LG or Sony offerings, as well as one T-Mobile-branded device.

First up among T-Mobile's offerings is the G2 flagship from LG. With a 5.2-inch, 1080x1920 display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, the G2 is a powerful handset. There is also Sony's Xperia Z, the Japanese tech giant's flagship second-most recent entry in its Xperia line. The Xperia Z packs a 1920x1080 display, a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, and LTE support. The device is also waterproof.

T-Mobile will also offer the LG Optimus F6. This Android 4.1 device has a 4.5-inch display outputting at 540x960 with IPS technology. Inside, it has a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.2GHz. Customers can also opt for a refurbished T-Mobile myTouch unit. This 3G device runs Android 2.2 Froyo, though it can be upgraded to 2.3 Gingerbread. It packs a Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz.

Repayment options for the offer depend on the cost of the phone acquired. All of the $0 down offers require that a customer pay back the cost of the device over the course of two years. Customers canceling wireless service with T-Mobile will then be required to pay back the cost of the device.
