updated 05:20 pm EST, Thu November 21, 2013

ESPN's SportsCenter app offers personalized ESPN content, optimized for iOS 7 and Android

ESPN Digital Media today launched its SportsCenter app for iOS and Android. The app provides sports fans a comprehensive, personalized mix of preferred ESPN content. ESPN SportsCenter is considered to be an update to ESPN's popular ScoreCenter app.

The app's three content pillars include Scores, News, and ESPN Now. Users can access live scores from their favorite teams and the day's best games; the Score screen allows fans to set alerts and access expanded information for each game. The News segment of the app offers up to date headlines and features, and ESPN Now integrates contextual live scoring and social updates for personalized teams and leagues.

Its Clubhouse component organizes content based on league and team. The Favorites screen provides quick access to personally selected teams and upcoming games, and its Inbox component collects relevant alerts, scores, and video highlights for the user. Game pages have been enhanced to include new native sharing, and one-click GameCast access. The revamp also offers improved searches and loading speeds.

Available for free, ESPN SportsCenter can be downloaded from iTunes currently, and Google Play later today.

Westfield Labs partners with eBay, unveiling digital storefronts at Westfield San Francisco Center

Westfield Labs announced its first partnership pilot with eBay, in an effort to combine online shopping with physical retail locations. The companies are introducing three digital storefronts to the Westfield San Francisco Centre for the holiday shopping season, of which will include Sony, TOMS and Rebecca Minkoff. Intended to improve the ease of holiday shopping, customers will be able to touch and interact with the digital storefronts to select and purchase from over 100 products.

Designed to integrate consumer expectations of both physical retail and mobile and social technology, Westfield San Francisco Centre shoppers can walk up to each digital storefront window, touch the glass, and begin browsing. Once items have been selected for purchase, the customer can push the order to their mobile phone and pay securely with PayPal, credit or debit.

Delivery options are flexible, offering free home delivery or pick-up at the Sony Gallery on the third level of the centre. Each retailer involved has its own personalized digital shopping experience: Sony is offering its latest electronics, as well as showcasing its technological innovations by powering all three storefronts; TOMS' holiday collection of eyewear and shoes will be available in its storefront, as well as access to the newly launched TOMS Marketplace, which includes a variety of other socially conscious brands' products; and lastly, women's fashion and accessories designer Rebecca Minkoff is offering trademark handbags and accessories complete with leather, studs and hardware.

Now open, the digital storefronts are located on the fourth level of the Westfield San Francisco Centre, and are available for use during holiday hours of the center. Sony, TOMS and Rebecca Minkoff merchandise will be featured in the three digital storefront windows until January 12.
