MediaFire launches beta Desktop sync client for OS X, Windows

updated 12:23 pm EST, Thu November 21, 2013

Tiers start at free 15GB level

Cloud file storage service MediaFire has launched a beta of Desktop, a new sync app and service for Windows and OS X. Much like Dropbox or Google Drive, MediaFire Desktop lets users automatically sync local files. Files can also quickly be shared through integrated OS options, which include URL generators and a screen capture tool.

One of the differences with MediaFire is the size of its subscription tiers. The free tier offers 15GB, and subsequent options scale up to 100GB ($4.99), 200GB ($9.99), and 500GB ($24.99). MediaFire also notes that it does automatic web-based audio and video transcoding, which makes it possible to load media files on mobile devices.

MediaFire hasn't said when Desktop will emerge from beta.
