PlayStation 4 title banned on Twitch, Europe loses social features

The Playroom banned on Twitch due to non-gaming usage

The Sony PlayStation 4 has hit a number of stumbling blocks, just before the company launches the game console in Europe. Game video streaming partner Twitch has banned one launch title from the service outright, and European users will also be missing out on a number of social features for the days following the console's launch.

The Playroom, a PlayStation Camera augmented reality game that is bundled with the PlayStation 4, is no longer listed on Twitch's stream directory. The Twitch terms of service states that it is for the use of game content alone, something which is ignored by people using the game as a lifestreaming system for other purposes. A Twitch spokesperson told All Things D that content "is always gauged on a case by case basis," with a majority of The Playroom users opting to use it for their own "shows" instead of how it was supposed to be used. This decision could potentially be reversed in the future, especially considering the PlayStation 4's focus on video sharing.

For the European launch, Sony will be disabling two social features items already being used in the United States. "What's New," a way to view the activities of friends on the PS4, as well as a "Content Information Screen" for activities relating to specific titles, will be unavailable at launch for European users, with the PlayStation blog advising that they will be switched back on within days "once the intensity of launch day calms down." Other PSN features, such as online multiplayer games, trophies, and live broadcasting of video, will still be available to use.

The PlayStation 4 is launching across Europe tomorrow, November the 29th.
