MSI intros 15.6-inch GT60 notebooks with 2880x1620 displays

Gaming and workstation editions available

MSI has introduced a new 15.6-inch notebook, the GT60, featuring a 2880x1620 display to compete with Apple's Retina MacBook Pros and other high-resolution portables. Two variants are available, one configured as a workstation and the other geared for gaming.

The GT60 2OD-261US gaming edition is powered by a fourth-generation Intel i7 processor running at 2.4GHz, with graphics handled by a Nvidia GeForce card. The basic configuration ships with a 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD, and 16GB of memory.

The GT60 2OKWS-278US workstation shares the same basic features as its gaming counterpart, but swaps the GeForce card for Nvidia's Quadro graphics. The notebook ships with Windows 7 Professional, rather than Windows 8, and is designed to work with Adobe's Creative Suite 6, AutoDesk and SolidWorks apps.

The company has yet to announce release dates, but retail pricing has been set at $2,200 for the gaming model and $2800 for the workstation.
