Screen video recording app from CyanogenMod team enters beta

The latest build of CyanogenMod brings Android 4.4 to a number of devices, including a number that have yet to receive the KitKat treatment. The team has also announced that it is adding automatic encryption of text messages to its builds, as well as introducing a new app that records a video of actions performed on the smartphone's display.

The change to Android 4.4 in CyanogenMod 11.0 brings the mobile operating system to the Samsung Galaxy S3, the Sony Xperia Z, the HTC One, and a number of other handsets, reports ZDNet. The blog team is also incorporating the recent Android 4.4.1 update, merging it into CM11 and will be adding it to nightly builds in the future.

The secure text messaging aspect runs through TextSecure, an open source cross-platform client for local and over-the-air encryption when messages are sent to other TextSecure users. CyanogenMod will automatically encrypt messages for users, regardless of which SMS application gets used, with the messages falling back to normal unencrypted messages if the recipient is not also using TextSecure.

The new beta of the CyanogenMod Screencast app can be triggered by pressing the power and volume up buttons, and can be configured to record audio in the instance where the user wishes to narrate their smartphone actions. Developer Koushik Dutta opened up the app in beta through Google+, and requires the latest nightly build of CyanogenMod in order to function.
