Nokia's Android project claimed still running as low-end Normandy

Mystery Nokia leak claimed to run forked Android

More signs of Nokia's Android development have allegedly surfaced, with a report claiming that one device that surfaced in late November is the fruit of Nokia's Android labor. The "Normandy" is said to be running on Android, more specifically a forked version of the mobile operating system, in a similar vein to Amazon and the Fire OS used in the Kindle Fire tablet range.

The original image from @evleaks was accompanied by the suggestion that it could be an Asha or Lumia device, but it was uncertain at the time. Sources of The Verge suggest it is effectively a low-cost Asha device, with the intention of bringing normal smartphone apps to a cheap device, something Nokia has attempted in the Asha line but to little success.

Despite the expected transfer of Nokia's mobile phone division to Microsoft under current acquisition plans, as well as earlier reports that a secret Nokia Android project was put to rest under the takeover, it is said that the project is still working "full steam ahead." Employees have apparently been told it will have a 2014 release and are continuing to work as such, though this could still be halted if it is not released before the Microsoft deal completes.
