Yahoo Mail issue claimed to be harder to fix than initially believed
Yahoo has acknowledged that a number of users were not able to access Yahoo Mail for part of this week, with the company apologizing for the outage on the official blog. The mail downtime commenced on Monday, with the company claiming to have fixed the issue for the majority of affected users last night, though support teams are apparently still working on some loose ends.

The post by Jeffrey Bonforte, Senior Vice President of Communication Products, states that the downtime started from 10:27PM PST on Monday, anD was due to a "hardware problem" in one of the mail data centers that has been "harder to fix" than originally expected. Though this did not reveal what exactly triggered the problem, CNET reports that Bonforte reiterated the mail cluster issue on Twitter, calling it "awful."
Recent service status updates claim that "Most affected users" would be able to access their Yahoo Mail accounts via the web and apps, though for some users, e-mails between the 25th of November and the 9th of December may not be shown in the inbox. As of 11:15PM PST yesterday, Yahoo restored POP mail access and was still working to restore IMAP, suggesting that mobile users access via the mobile apps for the moment, and that over 30 percent of messages sent during the outage have been delivered. All e-mails are expected to be delivered by this afternoon.
