Commercial version of educational tablet touts included data connections

The creator of the Aakash 2 tablet, an educational Android slate sold in India, has launched a commercial version in the United Kingdom. Though the range of 7-inch UbiSlate tablets do not match the entry-level specifications found in retailer-branded budget tablets like the Tesco Hudl, it does appear to be competing on sheer pricing of the hardware to consumers alone.

The base model, the UbiSlate 7Ci, ships with an 800x480-resolution capacitive display, with a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of expandable storage. Running on Android 4.0, Pocket-Lint reports that it has Wi-Fi connectivity and runs on Android 4.0. The next level up, the UbiSlate 7C+ adds one year of free EDGE 2G connectivity. The most expensive option, the UbiSlate 3G7, introduces a higher-resolution 1024x600 display, an upgraded dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a rear 2-megapixel camera, and a free 3G data connection for the year.

The UbiSlate 7Ci, UbiSlate 7C+, and the UbiSlate 3G7 are priced at £30, £70, and £130 ($49, $114, and $212) respectively, with producer Datawind expecting to ship orders before Christmas.
