Google lets iOS Glass owners pair through new app
Update: The app has now disappeared from the App Store with no explanation from Google.
Google has released a new app for iOS, one that allows owners of its Google Glass wearable computing device to pair their headsets with an iPhone or iPad. The new MyGlass for iOS app hit the App Store on Tuesday, expanding Google Glass' compatibility beyond the Android operating system. Google notes in the app's description that the app does of course require having access to the search giant's still-in-beta head-mounted computer in order to be of any use.
"If you don't have Glass," the description reads, "then downloading this will be a waste of time. Sorry about that. Learn more at google.com/glass."
MyGlass allows users to configure and manage their Glass devices. With the app, they can set up the device, get directions, and screencast what they see on Glass to their iPhones and iPads. They can also add Glassware apps and contacts through the app.
The app is available as a free download through the App Store. The 15.2 MB MyGlass download requires an iPhone or an iPad with a cellular connection. It also requires that a device run iOS 7.0 or later.
