Samsung 1TB home storage usable by HTC, Sony, LG devices

Samsung has opened up access to its HomeSync Android media center and storage device to other smartphones and tablets. The company has updated its app on Google Play, allowing owners of some HTC, Sony, and LG devices to store and access content on the set-top box, as well as controlling media and apps being used on the connected television.

Usage of the 1-terabyte "private cloud" storage has been extended to the HTC One and Butterfly, the Sony Xperia Z, ZL, and SP; the Google Nexus 4, and the LG Optimus G Pro, along with a large number of Samsung devices. Currently, the device is able to support up to eight users with five devices each, and is able to mirror content from a smartphone to the TV, though Samsung advises that not all of the HomeSync's features will be usable on the non-Samsung devices.

The HomeSync, revealed in February and shipped in October for $300, uses a dual-core 1.7GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of eMMC storage for the system's software, separate from the drive used for storing user-owned media.
