Smartphone from Samsung believed to appear at Tizen event

The first consumer Tizen devices could be shown off the day before Mobile World Congress, at an invitation-only event on February 23rd. Invitations have reportedly been sent to members of the media for the event, which hopes to show attendees what progress Samsung, Intel, and other backers have made on making the operating system suitable for use by the public.

The invitation states that it will provide "an exclusive sneak preview of the newest Tizen devices," reports IT News. Though it does not mention what kind of devices will be shown off, it is believed that at least one smartphone will be shown, with Samsung likely to be its creator.

In terms of existing releases, Tizen has appeared in a developer-focused 10.1-inch tablet in Japan and has also been used in Samsung's NX300M digital camera. While Samsung is still experimenting with smartphones running on the operating system, it is claimed that it will be launching a smart refrigerator using Tizen at CES in January, and is also said to be working on a television, with the software driving its smart capabilities.
