Microsoft rewards WP users with free storage

Owners of Windows Phone devices should check their connected email accounts today, as Microsoft has revealed that it is giving away free SkyDrive storage. The software giant emailed users on Friday, alerting them to an extra 20GB of free storage on its cloud service, this in addition to the 7GB of free storage Microsoft already provides for users. The free storage is available for one year, and users must take advantage of the offer by January 31, 2014.

The offer gives Windows Phone users a total of 27GB of free online storage, nearly twice the 15GB Google provides with its online service, and several times what Dropbox offers for free. SkyDrive is also available on iOS and Android devices, as well as on OS X, Windows, and the web, meaning users can access their files from virtually any connected device.

Microsoft already gives away 200GB of SkyDrive storage for two years with the purchase of a Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2 tablet. This 20GB for a Windows Phone device would be in addition to that offer if a user owns both.
