Cellular data access to Facebook free to users without data plan
T-Mobile will be offering users of its GoSmart Mobile prepaid wireless service free cellular data to access Facebook. The low-cost carrier is updating its plans in January, allowing all account types to access both Facebook and Facebook Messenger at no charge, regardless of whether or not there is inclusive data on the user's price plan.
Launched earlier this year, GoSmart Mobile offers prepaid plans that start from $25 per month for unlimited talk, with the $30 per month adding unlimited texts. While the $35 and $45 plans add in data access at 2G and 3G speeds, users on the $25 and $30 plans as well as those just owning the $8 SIM card and not paying for a monthly plan will be able to take advantage of the free Facebook data. The company reveals that the free access will work through both the browser and the app version of Facebook, as well as through the messaging client.
Facebook recently introduced video advertising to its service
Chris Daniels, vice president of partnerships at Facebook, said "Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected, and we're delighted that GoSmart subscribers, many who don't have data access, will be able to use Facebook for free."
