Successor to Huawei Ascend Mate claimed to have same screen
An update to the Huawei Ascend Mate phablet has allegedly been spotted on the Sina Weibo Chinese microblogging site. The new images appear to show it as having a relatively similar appearance to the original, retaining the 6.1-inch 720x1280 display, but the smooth and pronounced curve on the back of the brushed metal frame appears to have been slightly flattened, possibly to minimize rolling when laid on a surface.
The Ascend Mate 2 could be shaping up to be a suitable successor, according to details picked up by Phone Arena. Inside will be a quad-core Huawei Kirin 910 processor with 2GB of RAM, with the rear 8-megapixel camera upgraded to a 13-megapixel version, a front-facing 5-megapixel camera, and though the internal storage capacity has yet to be revealed, it is believed to be capable of accommodating a 64GB microSD card.
While a launch date for the Ascend Mate 2 is unknown, the leaked photographs and the appearance at a Chinese regulator at the start of December suggests it won't be far away, with the device likely to be shown at Mobile World Congress in February.
