Moto X, Droids on promotion, Droid Mini free

Verizon is discounting Motorola's customizable Moto X handset to just $50 on contract as part of its End of Year Savings promo. The carrier is also offering discounts on a range of other Android handsets, with savings available for Samsung smartphones and tablets, HTC's 2013 flagship, and Verizon's own line of Motorola-produced Droid devices. The promo runs through December 31, and customers can save up to $200 for certain electronics.

The smartphone deals are contingent on the commencement of a new two-year contract with a Verizon data plan. Due to the promotion, customers can get the Droid Mini for free, down from $50 on contract. Verizon is also offering the Droid Ultra for $50 on contract and the Droid Max for $150.

The Moto X has already received its update to the latest version of Google's Android mobile operating system, version 4.4 KitKat. The Droid line, also produced by Motorola, has begun receiving its updates to the operating system as well.

The critically-hailed HTC One is also available at a discount, with Verizon offering it for just $50 on contract. Also available is Samsung's Galaxy S4 mini, which Verizon is offering for $100.

The carrier has a range of cellular-enabled Samsung tablets on offer as well, with the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 available for $100 on contract, down from $300. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 costs $250, down from $250. The Galaxy Note 10.1, released last year, sells for $400 on contract, down from $600.
