Notebook joined by version with sliding keyboard, AIO desktop

LG has unveiled what computers and notebooks it will be showing at CES in January, alongside audio equipment and large-screened televisions. An update to a sliding notebook launched at the previous event is accompanied by a more conventional version, while a 27-inch Full HD all-in-one desktop PC will also be making an appearance.

The LG Ultra PC, model 13Z940, opts for a Haswell-based Intel Core i5 processor, and a choice of 128GB or 256GB solid state drives for storage. The 13.3-inch Full HD IPS display is surrounded by a 4.4mm bezel, with its overall thickness and weight measuring 13.6mm (0.53 inches) and 980g (2.16 pounds). It also introduces a "Reader Mode," which changes the background of an onscreen image so it appears to be paper, which LG claims to help reduce eye strain and lower energy consumption.

Based on the earlier Tab-Book, the Tab-Book 2 features a slide-out keyboard behind the 11.6-inch touchscreen. Using an Intel Core i5 processor, the Windows 8.1 notebook has a full HD IPS display with 400 nits of brightness. Two models will be available, with the larger 11T740 being 16.7mm (0.66 inches) thick and weighing 1.05kg (2.31 pounds), while the 11T540 is lighter and thinner, at 930g (2.05 pounds) and 13.7mm (0.54 inches).

The LG AIO PC, running Windows 8.1, will use a combination of an Intel Core processor and an Nvidia GeForce GT740M graphics card, though acting as a PC is only half of its story. An accompanying remote control will allow it to be used as a television without rebooting the PC, with a picture-in-picture mode letting the user continue on the desktop while simultaneously watching the TV feed. A HDMI jack will allow it to connect to external media sources such as a Blu-ray player, or as LG suggests, a sound bar or other home entertainment components.
