Braven releases BRV-Bank rugged smartphone battery, BRV-X HD wireless speaker

Braven on Tuesday revealed its latest product releases: the BRV-Bank portable backup battery, and the BRV-X outdoor speaker. Both products are intended to be rugged, with both products holding an IP water-resistant rating. The Braven BRV-X is equipped with custom-made HD drivers, an omnidirectional passive bass radiator, and setting for indoor and outdoor locations. Its noise-cancelling speakerphone, USB charging capability and integrated power bank allow for versatile function, and easy pairing with NFC offers users true left and right stereo sound with a second BRV-X.

The BRV-Bank portable battery for smartphones is shockproof, with a MIL-STD 810G rating. Its Bluetooth capability can connect with the Braven BRV-Bank app to wirelessly monitor battery levels, start and stop charging devices and locate the BRV-Bank from a smartphone or tablet. Available in 6,000mAh and 8,000mAh options, the battery has two outputs that support up to 2.4A and comes with a rugged USB charging cable and USB flashlight. Both new Braven products are being showcased at CES 2014, with pricing and availabiliy yet to be announced.

Scosche's Rhythm Smart+ heart rate monitor with music control unveiled at CES 2014

Accessory maker Scosche has announced its armband heart monitor, Rhythm Smart+, today at CES 2014. Its dual-mode wireless configuration includes both Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ capabilities, allowing it to pair with smartphones, sport watches and exercise equipment from up to 100 feet away. The Rhythm Smart+ optically measures blood flow and movement to calculate heart rate and calories burned more accurately than conventional heart rate monitors.

The activity tracker is made from a silicone and polycarbonate hybrid, and fastens to the forearm just below the elbow. Waterproof, the Rhythm Smart+ is protected from moisture while exercising, and can be submerged up to one meter (3.3 feet) in water. The monitor can sync to both iOS and Android devices, and is compatible with most popular fitness apps. The pricing and availability of the Rhythm Smart+ also has yet to be announced.
