Apple, Samsung CEOs to meet in last-ditch patent negotiation effort

February 19 (or earlier) meeting may forestall second patent trial

According to a report from Reuters, Apple's CEO Tim Cook and Samsung's CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon will attend a mediation session to be held on or around February 19. The executives will attend with in-house corporate lawyers only, leaving the private law firms embroiled in the patent lawsuits behind.

The pair have met before, with no real success. Since the original meeting, Apple was handed a major victory in its smartphone patent trial, with a follow-on damages retrial both confirming the verdict as well as upholding a large amount of the amount that Samsung wanted set aside permanently.

Failing a comprehensive patent licensing agreement, the next omnibus smartphone patent trial between the pair will begin in March, with a significant hearing about product embargoes from the previous trial to be held on January 30.
