Curated Beats Music to launch later this month

The Beats Music streaming service will finally launch later this month, January 21, with apps available for Android, iOS, Windows, and the web. The Verge reported on Sunday that the service, backed by music industry giant Jimmy Iovine, will be available for a $10 monthly subscription fee. At launch, Beats will also unveil a collaboration with AT&T, which will see that carrier's customers able to get family subscriptions to Beats for just $15 per month.

For $10 per month, subscribers will be able to stream songs to three devices, but AT&T family plan subscribers will be able to stream to up to 10 devices in total. Those customers will, though, have to have a cellular family plan or multiline account of some sort. AT&T will also allow customers to try the service for free for 30 days, or 90 days for families. Non-AT&T customers will get a 7-day free trial.

Beats Music subscribers will be able to download an unlimited amount of songs for local storage on their devices so long as their subscriptions remain current. At launch, Beats Music will have roughly 20 million songs in its catalog.

Beats hopes to differentiate itself from competing streaming services by offering stations and suggestions curated by both algorithms and actual humans. Those interested can already sign up for a user name at the service's site.
