updated 08:17 pm EST, Tue January 14, 2014

Two new models tailored for small business, scalability for future expansion

Storage solutions provider Synology has revealed its latest RackStation NAS with the RS814+, and RS814RP+ with redundant power. The RS814(RP)+ is a high-performance four-bay 1U server, designed to scale up to eight bays when using an RX410 expansion module. A quad-Network Interface Card configuration on the unit fuels read operations at over 300MB per second, and write speeds over 190MB per second.

Both units are optimized with 2GB of RAM to assist with multi-tasking under heavy workloads. For added redundancy, the RS814(RP)+ supports Synology High Availability to reduce network downtime, as well as LAG, and MPIO failover support.

The pair of devices have support for VMware, Citrix, and Hyper-V with vSphere 5, including VAAI integration. VPN support baked into the unit provides a secure way of connecting to the LAN from a remote location.

Both devices will be shipping in the next couple of weeks. The RS814+ will retail for $1,100. The RS814RP+ sells for $1,700.
