No comment by Yahoo or De Castro on reasons behind premature exit

Early Marissa Mayer Yahoo hire Henrique de Castro is leaving the search engine's employ after 15 months on the job. A memo to Yahoo staff claims that Mayer has fired the executive and restructured the upper management of the company. Neither Yahoo nor de Castro have commented on the reasons behind the departure.

The memo with the news of the firing, acquired by Recode, quotes Mayer as saying that "during my own reflection, I made the difficult decision that our COO, Henrique de Castro, should leave the company. I appreciate Henrique's contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

The memo outlines other changes, in essence eliminating de Castro's position and spreading his duties around in the executive team. De Castro's employment contract specifies that upon his exit, he will recieve half of the restricted stock units that would have been awarded to him over time, likely in the form of a lump settlement, currently worth about $18 million.
