Android software upgrade for older Galaxy devices touted after S4 update
Samsung may be updating its older flagship smartphones to Android KitKat in the future, according to a rumor. Despite the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note 2 being in the middle of updating to Android 4.3 through some carriers, it is claimed that the smartphone manufacturer will boost both devices to Android 4.4.2 by the end of March.
A Samsung engineer reportedly spoke to Android.gs, claiming the update for both devices will occur "in late Q1 2014, soon after the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 roll out." In the same communication, the source advised that the user interface changes would be "minor" and that there would not be any new major software updates to either device, aside from the operating system itself.

Despite the March release of the update, it could reach user devices a lot later, as it will apparently be released in phases. Vetting by carriers will also add more time to the update's release, with some carriers still working on rolling out the earlier Android 4.3 update.
