New processors designed for virtualization, heavy processor loads
AMD today announced the immediate availability of its new 12- and 16-core AMD Opteron 6300 Series server processors, code named "Warsaw." Designed for enterprise workloads with a heavy emphasis on virtualization, the new AMD Opteron 6300 Series processors feature the "Piledriver" core and are fully socket- and software-compatible with the existing AMD Opteron 6300 Series.
The 6338P processor is a 12-core model, running at 2.3GHz, peaking at 2.8GHz. The 6370P consists of 16-cores running at a base frequency of 2.0GHz, with a turbo speed of 2.5Ghz. Both require 99 watts of power, and support quad channel U/RDDR3 RAM up to DDR3-1600 with ULV and LRDIMM support.
The new processors are available today with a retail price of $337 for the 6338P and $598 for the 6370P.
