Wilocity ships more than one million WiGig units during first year of production

Wilocity, a developer of 60 GHz multi-gigabit wireless chipsets based on the 802.11ad standard, today announced that it has shipped more than one million WiGig units in its first year of production. Wilocity units have been incorporated into a number of premium Dell Ultrabooks and high-performance Dell mobile workstations, as well as the D5000 Wireless Dock, offering speeds more than ten times faster than mainstream Wi-Fi.

WiGig is suitable for a broad range of applications, due to its high speed, resistance to interference, and high-capacity networking. Senior analyst for connectivity at IHS, Stephanie Gibbons, says that WiGig technology is "ready to really take off in 2014 and 2015," with 802.11ad product certifications underway.
