Samsung-only stores brings manufacturer closer to Apple retail efforts

Samsung will be expanding upon its concept of a store-within-a-store, by completely taking over a number of stores owned by a European retailer. A total of 60 existing stores from Carphone Warehouse's chain of 1,400 will be converted into shops selling just Samsung produce, including smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and wearable devices such as the Galaxy Gear smart watch.

The move is an expansion of an existing program, consisting of three standalone Samsung stores in Spain, with Carphone Warehouse revealing that the extra locations will be rolling out over the next three months in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Carphone Warehouse will be managing the stores, with the retailer becoming Samsung's "preferred partner" for future European expansion.

The announcement brings Samsung closer to the current retail efforts of Apple, which currently has 98 stores in Europe. It also has a number of experience stores and store-in-a-store locations inside larger retail chains, and reportedly acquired Tim Gudgel, a senior Apple Store designer, to help with its efforts.
