US Cellular offering 'unlimited' plan with throttled data speed

updated 04:28 pm EST, Fri January 31, 2014

Data speed limitation kicks in at 500MB of consumed data

Regional carrier US Cellular has quietly debuted an unlimited data program for users of its network. For $50 a month, users get up to 500MB of data at high speed, with what the company calls "slowed" speeds thereafter. Also included in the $50 per month are unlimited talk, text, no roaming, and no contracts. The offer is posted by US Cellular as a limited time program.

US Cellular reserves the right to terminate service if more than 200 MB of data usage in any month is used in the carrier's non-licensed markets, utilizing roaming data. Users can expect an average download speed of 768 Kbps and an average upload speed of 200 Kbps at full speed, with reduced speed after the 500MB soft ceiling is reached.
