Lens camera firmware improves ISO, video resolution

Sony's QX Smart Lens range of "Lens Cameras" have received a firmware update, improving a number of functions. At the same time, images have surfaced suggesting that Sony is preparing to offer a mount for the cameras, expanding the range of devices the QX10 and QX100 can be attached to from smartphones to include tablets and phablets.

The firmware adds to the ISO setting on the cameras, reports Softpedia, increasing the QX10's sensitivity from a maximum of ISO 1600 to ISO 3200, and the QX100 from ISO 3200 to ISO 12800. The default resolution for video capture has been updated from 1,440x1,080 to 1,920x1,080 at 30fps, with the QX100 also receiving an extra shutter priority mode. Sony has provided firmware downloads for both Mac and Windows users through its website.

A range of attachments for the two cameras will expand the maximum width of devices the cameras can attach to from 75mm up to a maximum of 190mm (2.9 inches to 7.5 inches), according to Xperia Blog. Six attachments of varying size will be available at its Japan launch on April 4, with an expected price of 3,675 yen ($36), and could be made available in other countries shortly after.
