Update to Microsoft OS leaks before expected March 11 launch

Microsoft's first major update to Windows 8.1 has leaked ahead of its expected March 11 launch. The update, appearing in a number of file sharing sites, is said to have been compiled on January 14th and is not the final version that will be supplied to users, but at the same time it does not appear to include many more updates other than what has already leaked out.

Of the few improvements, The Verge notes a new title bar for the Windows 8 or "Metro" apps, specifically for closing, minimizing, and snapping the apps to the side of the screen, has surfaced in the leak. Taking up a small amount of space above the Metro apps, the bar is another concession to users preferring the mouse over the touchscreen. Earlier leaked changes, such as adding Metro apps to the taskbar, contextual menus to the Start Screen, and dedicated power and search buttons at the top of the Start Screen, also make an appearance.

Users looking to run Metro apps directly from the desktop contained in their own Windows will still have to wait until the next full version of Windows is released. Windows 9, codenamed "Threshold" is currently thought to ship sometime in April 2015, though this could still change.
