Higher-specification models can display Ultra HD-resolution images

Asus has launched a new Chromebox it will be shipping later this quarter, one it hinted at during Intel's IDF Keynote in September. The small form factor device is similar in size to the Intel NUC Kit, with the compact computer running Chrome OS on a choice of a Haswell-based 1.4GHz dual-core Celeron, Core i3, or Core i7 processors, and integrated Intel HD graphics.

Much like with most other Chromebooks on the market, the lightweight Chrome OS doesn't require much in terms of hardware in order to run. The base Celeron model offers 2GB of RAM, 16GB of SSD storage, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, four USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet, and an SD card reader, with a HDMI output accompanied by a DisplayPort capable of providing 4K video playback on models with the faster processor. Alternative versions will offer up to a 2.1GHz Core i7 processor and 4GB of RAM, though AnandTech reports only the Celeron and the 1.7GHz Core i3 models will be made available in the United States.

Sold with an extra 100GB of Google Drive cloud storage for two years, the Asus Chromebook will start shipping in March, starting from $179.
