Fujitsu readies senior citizen-aimed Grannote i7 laptop

New model sports enhanced keyboard, clear and large iconography

Fujitsu today announced the introduction of its new Grannote brand personal computer, available exclusively in Japan for what the company calls "active, mature adults, primarily around 60 years of age." The new Windows 8.1-equipped model is set to go on sale in Japan on February 13.

The model has a clean design that resonates with mature sensibilities: a keyboard with highly legible keycaps and tactile action. To enhance screen visibility, Fujitsu offers "Intellicolor" to automatically adjust color tone to match the ambient brightness, depending on whether the surroundings are lit with fluorescent, incandescent, or natural lighting. "Awaseru View" lets users preset the color balance they feel best suits their age.

Grannote comes with the fourth-generation Intel Core i7-4500U processor, along with TB hard drives and 8GB of memory. With box-type speakers developed in collaboration with Pioneer, and a slot-loading BDXL-compatible Blu-Ray drive, Granote enables users to enjoy high-quality video and audio.

Pricing is not yet available. The senior-citizen oriented model is unlikely to reach US shores.
