Android-based Nokia smartphone more likely after teaser image release

The Mobile World Congress launch of the Nokia X, codenamed "Normandy," is looking more likely, thanks to a new leaked image and a teaser from the company itself. An image said to be a promotional shot for the Android-based smartphone has surfaced, while the official Nokia Conversations blog is promoting the event using an image strongly hinting at a green X, the color typically associated with Android itself.

The marketing image from @evleaks shows a device remarkably similar to ones in earlier images of the rumored device. While it offers little in the way of new information, it does seem to suggest Nokia is set on using the "Nokia X" name for the device, though this could still change before the event.

The blog teaser advertises the Nokia press conference in Barcelona, taking place on Monday morning. Though it too provides no real clues to what will be revealed, except for the post's main image hinting at the green X, it does advise there will be a live stream of the launch itself.

Current rumors about the device suggest it will sport a 4-inch 480x800 display, a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, dual SIM card slots, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a rear 5-megapixel camera. The Nokia X is also believed to be a device aimed toward emerging markets, and could be offered with a sub-$100 price tag.
