Sternly penned blog post rebukes T-Mobile for 'anti-BlackBerry' offer
In the wake of a T-Mobile promotion offering BlackBerry phone users the iPhone 5s with no money down, BlackBerry chairman John Chen has taken umbrage. Chen has written a blog post slamming the carrier over its "anti-BlackBerry" effort, saying that BlackBerry users who defended the company drew "a sharp contrast with the behavior of our long-time business partner."
Chen wrote that what "puzzled" him is that "T-Mobile did not speak with us before or after they launched this clearly inappropriate and ill-conceived marketing promotion." T-Mobile currently offers refurbished Q10s, and sells no other modern BB10 devices.
The new CEO concluded with "finally, to T-Mobile, I would like to remind you that our long-standing partnership was once productive and profitable for both BlackBerry and T-Mobile. I hope we can find a way forward that allows us to serve our shared customers once again."
T-Mobile CEO John Legere responded in a post on Twitter that the company has heard users' complaints about the seeming abandonment of the BlackBerry platform, and said that he will "work with the team and get back with you."
