UK Top 40 to take into account streaming music services for first time

Music streaming will be taken into account in music charts covering the United Kingdom for the first time, the BBC reports. George Ergatoudis, head of Radio 1, has announced tracks played on streaming services such as Spotify and YouTube will form part of the country's Top 40 from as soon as this summer, though there are apparently issues in deciding how many times a track is streamed will count as one purchase. Music streaming accounts for nearly 10 percent of recorded music revenues in the UK, and is already taken into account in charts in the US and Germany.
