Successors to OneTouch Idol have 3G, LTE variants

Alcatel has revealed a trio of smartphones before Mobile World Congress, covering the mid-range and entry-level markets. The OneTouch Idol 2 and OneTouch Idol 2 Mini are mid-ranged devices that are new to the OneTouch Idol family of devices, while the addition to the Pop series, the OneTouch Pop Fit, is a miniaturized device with budget specifications, and accessories that allow it to be worn while exercising.

The Idol 2 sports a 5-inch 960x540-resolution IPS display inside a metal casing. Powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage, it uses an 8-megapixel rear camera with HDR modes and 1080p video recording, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing counterpart, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, LTE connectivity, and a 2,000mAh battery. Alcatel hopes to ship the Idol 2 in April or May for 199 euro ($275) and 249 euro (340) for the 3G and LTE models respectively.

The smaller Idol 2 Mini opts for a 4.5-inch 960x540 screen, with a quad-core 1.2GHz processor 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage inside the 8.5mm-thick (0.33 inches) casing. While it uses the same 8-megapixel camera as the full-size model, it does not have NFC and its battery is reduced to 1,700mAh. Shipping in March, the Idol 2 Mini will cost 169 euro ($230) for the 3G-only model, with the LTE version selling for 209 euro ($290).

The third device the OneTouch Pop Fit, has a diminutive 2.8-inch QVGA display, with a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek chip and 512MB of RAM, reports Engadget. While it offers generally low specifications, including a 1,000mAh battery, it will ship with either a 16GB or 32GB of storage, which when combined with the supplied cover and armband accessory, is likely to be aimed towards those looking to replace compact and wearable MP3 players. The OneTouch Pop Fit will cost 89 euro ($120) when it ships this May.
