updated 02:35 pm EST, Mon February 24, 2014

New device full HD, 5.1-inch AMOLED display

Moments ago, Samsung President and Chief of IT and Mobile Communications JK Shin showed the Barcelona crowd the new Galaxy S5 smartphone, the flagship phone of its line. The device, in a similar form factor to the S4, boasts a 5.1-inch AMOLED display, enhanced 2,800mAh battery, and greatly improved camera compared to the previous Galaxy S phone.

The new phone features a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, and 2GB of RAM. Other features include a swipe fingerprint scanner, Android 4.4 KitKat, and dust- and water-resistance in accordance with IP67 certification requirements. The camera is a 16MP model with UHD recording, and real-time HDR capture.

The Galaxy S5 supports the fifth generation Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 2X2 MIMO, and supports the wide spectrum of LTE frequencies with LTE Category 4 standard. For consumers seeking an even faster connection, the Galaxy S5 now features Download Booster, an Wi-Fi technology for boosting data speed by multiplexing Wi-Fi and LTE simultaneously.

The Galaxy S5 features a perforated pattern on the back cover creating what the company calls "a modern glam look." Its new contoured polycarbonate shape casing comes in an array of colors, including charcoal black, shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold. The new device will ship in April worldwide, but no cost has yet been announced.

Indeed...2% screen size increase, 5% processor increase, 8% larger battery, 3 megapixel higher camera resolution, and fingerprint recognition. Samsung innovation is something to behold...they really mean it when they say "The Next Big Thing"

This appears to be what they should have released as the Galaxy S4. Nevermind, it may do well, despite being plastic again. Doesn't seem (on first glance) to really be on par with the iPhone 5s, nevermind the iPhone 6 coming this fall -- but I'll leave that judgement to our reviewers, I may be missing something here.

32-bit Snapdragon 800 processor? The same as in the last model, just clocked slightly higher? LOL. A larger display that actually REDUCES pixel density. Bahahaha. The same design as the past TWO models. ROTFL....
