Barnes & Noble announces plans to launch new Nook devices in early 2015

Barnes & Noble has released its third quarter financial results today, which highlights narrowed losses compared to previous reports. In addition, the company has announced its plan to launch a new Nook color e-reader in early fiscal 2015. As reported last June, Barnes & Noble suffered losses on its Nook tablet lines, and subsequently announced its move to co-brand future Nook tablets with third-party manufacturers. This move was to assume less risk in production, while still earning money from devices sold and allowing for room to focus on its digital bookstore.

Barnes & Noble's loss reduction has been successful since then, selling most of its existing device inventory. Additional tablet devices were produced to meet holiday and post-holiday demand using previously-acquired parts. According to its latest report, the company is "actively engaged in discussions with several world-class hardware partners related to device development, as well as content packaging and distribution," and "as a result, [it] plan[s] to launch a new Nook color device in early fiscal 2015." Consolidated third quarter net earnings were $63.2 million, at $0.86 per share, compared to a net loss of $3.7 million, or a loss of $0.14 per share in the prior year.

OpenX announced Native O|X real-time bidding ad exchange

Ad technology company OpenX has announced its new ad exchange platform for mobile, real-time bidding for advertising space. Native O|X allows app developers and publishers to apply programmatic buying to increasingly popular native in-stream ad formats, offering brands to bid on in-stream ad units within a private environment. Developers and publishers access more than 300 pre-screened, multi-screen demand partners that have access to the available inventory. Native advertising provides a more integrative display that better fits in with a publisher or developer's existing content. Interested publishers can contact OpenX for more information.
