Virtual assistant settings menu shows Notebook, name options
Images of what could be the final form of Microsoft's Siri and Google Now competitor have surfaced. Cortana, named after the AI character from the Halo video game series but could still be rebranded for launch, has been previously said to have a similar personality to Siri, though in a nod to Google Now, the basic interface for the virtual assistant appears to offer a text-based entry option to go alongside the voice recognition system.

The screenshots from sources of The Verge show the animated circular icon of Cortana, as well as more of a hint to the extent of its personalization settings. A Cortana Suggestions option will offer reminders, alerts, and suggestions from Cortana, which will be sourced from the private Notebook data store of persona information, as well as Foursquare and other online services. Another option lets Cortana use details from the e-mail inbox, such as flight information, as part of the alerts. Users can also opt to have Cortana call them by name, as well as change the way it is pronounced.
Cortana will apparently be included with Windows Phone 8.1, with Microsoft expected to release the developer preview of Windows Phone 8.1 at the company's Build conference in April.
