Lenovo denies reports of Ashton Kutcher smartphone development

Earlier reports misquoted, Kutcher work on tablets continues

Lenovo is not working with Ashton Kutcher on new smartphones, the company has revealed. Following reports that the actor was expanding his design remit at the manufacturer from tablets to smartphones, a Lenovo executive has clarified that Kutcher's work is still concerns just tablets, indicating earlier comments from another executive were potentially misquoted.

The first report from Recode heard from Chief Marketing Officer David Roman that Kutcher was working on the user experience of the smartphones, but not the circuitry, with the resulting devices apparently forming part of a special-edition phone line launching later this year.

Director of External Communication Ray Gorman advised to Pocket-Lint that "the development agreement Lenovo has with Ashton Kutcher is for tablets only, and not for smartphones." This could mean that the original comments by Roman related to a special-edition tablet line instead of smartphones, though this was not confirmed by Gorman's statement.

Kutcher's current work with Lenovo involves the co-design and promotion of Android tablets, including the 18-hour Yoga Tablet. On Kutcher's work, Roman commented earlier "He not only sees himself as an engineer, but he is an engineer. If he sees a problem, he wants to solve it."
