FCC filing hints at Samsung 'S-Circle' fitness tracker

Fitness tracker filing suggests another Samsung wearable device on the way

Samsung could be preparing to launch a pared-down fitness tracker, following its launch of the Gear Fit last month. A filing on the FCC website for a device called the "S-Circle" comes months after the discovery of a similar filing at the Bluetooth SIG, and suggests the activity tracker could be similar to the S Band heart rate monitor that launched alongside the Galaxy S4.

The filing spotted by Engadget tells little about the device, except for the model number EI-AN900A, its use of Bluetooth Low-Energy, and its description of an "activity tracker." The design of the device is unknown, with future FCC filing updates likely to shed more about the device's exact purpose before its launch.

It is possible that the S-Circle could follow in the same vein as the Fitbit and Sony's SmartBand, in that it would offer purely tracking capabilities, and avoiding the curved display design shown with the Gear Fit. It is possible that it will be seen as a cheaper alternative to the Gear Fit meant for Galaxy S5 owners, removing the heart rate monitoring system that also appears in the smartphone, and instead focusing on other fitness-related metrics.
