Update not officially available, but user-downloadable anyhow

Microsoft has, perhaps inadvertently, made the next version of Windows 8.1 available for download. Windows 8.1 Update 1 has been discovered, requiring either registry changes to automatically obtain the update, or a manual install by way of direct download.

The Windows 8 Update 1 fixes has a host of bug-fixes, as well as many user-interface changes oriented towards keyboard and mouse users. The new update also allows machines with specifications as low as 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage to use the operating system, perhaps helping.
