Budget HP Android tablet ships without typical launch

Following the launch of its Slate 6 and Slate 7 VoiceTab phablets, HP has quietly shipped a budget Android tablet, to little fanfare. The HP 8 1401 Tablet offers a 7.85-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1024x768, and while it is slightly larger than the average cheap tablet on the market, it still uses a relatively similar list of specifications as its cut-price rivals.

Inside is an Allwinner quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage, reports Phone Arena. Running on Android 4.2.2, it offers Wi-Fi connectivity, a rear fixed-focus 2-megapixel camera, a front-facing 0.3-megapixel version and a 3,800mAh battery said to last for up to seven hours on a single charge.

Supplied with 25GB of free cloud storage from Box, the HP 8 1401 Tablet is shipping now for $170.
